Covid Secure details

Please see below a list of measures that we now have place. The guidelines are under constant review and measures are updated as and when we receive government guidelines.

Our aim is for all guests and visitors to have a relaxed, comfortable, friendly, and safe stay in our Hotel

The Browns Team:

  • Every member of our team will have training on how to prevent the spread of Covid-19 within our hotel setting.
  • Any team member displaying symptoms or contacted by NHS track and trace will be immediately asked to stay at home and required to self-isolate prior to returning to work.
  • All staff will be provided with any PPE relevant to their area of work and given training on how to use it correctly.
  • We have hand sanitising stations throughout back of house areas.
  • All staff are asked to download the NHS COVID 19 phone app and abide by any recommendations.

Browns Guests:

  • We request that should you be displaying any symptoms of Covid-19 you call us to postpone your stay. The main symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are a high temperature, a new, continuous cough and a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste. See  https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19  for further advice.
  • Please do not enter the hotel if you feel that you may have symptoms.
  • Do get in touch if you are awaiting a test or have been asked to self-isolate. We will re-arrange your stay.
  • Please abide by any travel restrictions relevant to the tier alert level for your home address.
  • We recommend all guests download the NHS COVID 19 app. Our QR code is displayed in the hotel entrance and available at each table. This is to help ensure we are all alerted to anyone who may pose a risk of spreading Covid-19.

Arriving at Browns:

  • We have a hand sanitiser station just inside the door for your use.
  • Public areas of hotels are included in the list of places where it is required to wear a face covering although this is not needed if you are having drinks or food in our bar or restaurant areas.
  • Our reception area is regularly sanitised, and we have a screen at the reception desk and bar.
  • Check-in is simple, minimising time spent at the reception desk.
  • Your parking voucher and key will have been sanitised ready for you.
  • We have been advised at this time not to handle guest’s luggage or show you to your room on arrival. However, if you have any special requirements please do not hesitate to contact us prior to arrival and we will make the necessary preparations with everyone’s safety in mind.
  • We aim to check guest into their rooms from 3pm but do ask that you bear with us at this tricky time.

Your Room:

  • Every guest bedroom and bathroom will be cleaned and fully sanitised using high level surface disinfectant cleaner and steam steriliser. Your room will not be re-entered during your stay unless there is essential maintenance. This would only be with you express permission.
  • Our housekeeping team will be provided with all necessary PPE to use whilst cleaning your room and the PPE will be sanitised or changed between each bedroom.
  • We will have windows and doors open during the housekeeping process to ensure good ventilation.
  • We are operating a ‘swap and quarantine’ system for any items that cannot be easily and effectively sanitised. Our guest information folder will be sent to you by email, but just ask if you would like a fresh paper copy.
  • Everything on your tea tray has been sanitised or sterilised in our dishwasher. You will have ground coffee, and individually packaged products. For a jug of fresh milk and decaf, loose leaf or other teas, just ask.
  • We will not be entering your room to clean during your stay so should you require any fresh cups, coffee pots, towels etc, just pop them in your ‘swap box’ and put it outside your room.
  • Our Laundry supplier have put in additional steps to ensure that all linen is cleaned and returned sanitised.

Public areas:

  • There will be some visible signage around the hotel regarding safety protocols.
  • When moving around the hotel we request that you please be considerate of the social distancing rule and adhere to any floor signs provided.
  • Looking and listening out for others and some common sense, patience and politeness at ‘pinch points’ such as on the stairs, will keep us all safe and comfortable.
  • Face coverings are now required in public areas.
  • We have set up hand sanitiser stations in ‘high traffic’ areas of the hotel and we politely request these are made use of.
  • If you would like any help or advice during your stay, please do pop down to reception (minding social distancing) and have a chat with us. We will endeavour to keep abreast of what is on in town and might be able to recommend some quiet spots and the less obvious delights of our lovely town and this part of South Devon.

Breakfast:

  • We will be asking guests to pre-book a preferred time window for your breakfast. This will allow us to maximise social distancing and your individual attention.
  • Our usual buffet items: fruits, cereals, toast, juice, yogurt etc will be served to your table as requested as well as teas & coffees and our full menu of cooked breakfasts. These can be pre-ordered if desired.
  • Your numbered table and everything on it will have been sanitised or sterilised.

Evening Meals:

  • We will be serving meals for pre-booked or phone ahead tables only, with a strict and manageable maximum capacity to ensure effective social distancing.
  • Our restaurant is open to non-residents so we do suggest pre-booking as all restaurants in town will have limited capacity.
  • We are happy to serve aperitifs to anyone who is dining with us.
  • There is a hand sanitising station at all entry points, and we ask that this is made use of.
  • Your table and everything on it will have been sanitised, sterilised or is single use.

The Bar:

  • We can serve coffees, teas and soft drinks at any time but can currently only serve alcoholic drinks with a meal.
  • Although we do not offer room service, we are happy to prepare drinks and snacks from the bar and wine list for guests to collect and enjoy in their room. Please phone down to place an order and a tray will be prepared for you.
  • The Bistro will now close by 11pm. Non-residents will be required to leave the premises by this time. We are happy for hotel guest to take a drink up to their room or finish wine or digestifs in our bar or lobby area. These must be ordered before 10 o’clock.
  • There is a hand sanitising station at all entry points, and we ask that this is made use of.
  • Please leave empty glasses at your table so we can clear, clean, and sanitise.
  • Cash payments are not currently being taken. Charges to the room for guests or card/contactless please.

Check-out & payments:

  • We are advised to keep check-out swift. Your room bill will be sent by email and we can take payment from the card details given at the time of booking. Please let us know at check in if you would like us to do this.
  • If you did not book directly with the hotel, please make sure we have your direct email address.
  • Credit and debit cards will be accepted as will the contactless payment options available on smartphones. At this stage we are unable to accept cash.
