Covid Secure details

Please see below a list of measures that we have place. These measures are under constant review and have been cautiously updated following changes to government guidelines from July 19th 2021 and our own risk assessment.

Our aim is for all guests and visitors to have a relaxed, comfortable, friendly, and safe stay in our Hotel and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our staff.

The Browns Team:

  • Every member of our team will have training on how to prevent the spread of Covid-19 within our hotel setting.
  • Any team member displaying symptoms or contacted by NHS track and trace will be immediately asked to stay at home and required to take a PCR test and self-isolate if positive, prior to returning to work.
  • We have hand sanitising stations throughout back of house areas.
  • All staff are asked to download the NHS COVID 19 phone app and abide by any recommendations.

Browns Guests:

  • We request that should you be displaying any symptoms of Covid-19, you call us to postpone your stay. The main symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are a high temperature, a new, continuous cough and a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste. See for further advice.
  • Irrespective of your vaccination status, please do not enter the hotel if you feel that you may have symptoms.
  • Do get in touch if you are awaiting a test or have been asked to self-isolate. We will need to re-arrange your stay.
  • Please abide by any travel restrictions relevant to your home address or recent foreign travel. Our hotel is not a suitable place for self-isolation after return to the UK.

Arriving at Browns:

  • Our QR code is displayed in the hotel entrance. Sign in is no longer a legal requirement but remains available.
  • We have a hand sanitiser station just inside the door for your use.
  • Public areas of hotels are no longer included in the list of places where it is required to wear a face covering. Face coverings are still ‘expected and recommended’ in ‘crowded and enclosed’ places. Guests and staff should take a personal decision on when to wear a face mask.
  • We are promoting good ventilation by opening windows and doors and assisting air flow with fans.
  • Our reception area is regularly sanitised, and we have a screen at the reception desk and bar.
  • Check-in is simple, minimising time spent at the reception desk.
  • Your parking voucher and key will have been sanitised ready for you.
  • We are not currently offering to handle guest luggage. However, if you have any special requirements, please don’t hesitate to contact us prior to arrival and we will make the necessary preparations to assist you.
  • We aim to check guest into their rooms from 3pm.

Your Room:

  • Every guest bedroom and bathroom will be cleaned and fully sanitised using high level surface disinfectant cleaner. Your room will not be re-entered during your stay unless there is essential maintenance.
  • We will have windows and doors open during and after the housekeeping process to ensure maximum ventilation.
  • Everything on your tea tray has been sanitised or sterilised in our dishwasher. You will have ground coffee, and individually packaged products. For a jug of fresh milk and decaf, loose leaf or other teas, just ask.
  • We will not be entering your room to clean during your stay so should you require any fresh cups, coffee pots, towels etc, just pop them in your ‘swap box’ and put it outside your room.
  • Public areas:
  • When moving around the hotel we request that you please be considerate of others. Although the social distancing guidance has been relaxed, we anticipate that some patience and politeness at ‘pinch points’ such as on the stairs, will keep us all feeling comfortable.
  • We have set up hand sanitiser stations in ‘high traffic’ areas of the hotel and we recommend these are made use of.
  • If you would like any help or advice during your stay, please do pop down to reception and have a chat with us. We will endeavour to keep abreast of what is on and might be able to recommend some quiet spots and the less obvious delights of our lovely town and this part of South Devon.
  • Please also feel free to phone us on 01803 832572 at any point during your stay.
  • Breakfast:
  • We will be asking guests to pre-book a preferred time window for your breakfast. This will allow us to facilitate social distancing and offer full table service.
  • We are not yet returning to any self-service or buffet at breakfast. Items such as fruits, cereals, toast, juice, yogurt etc will be served to your table as well as teas & coffees and our full menu of cooked breakfasts.

Evening Meals:

  • In our bistro, we will be serving meals for pre-booked or phone ahead tables with a safe and manageable maximum capacity.
  • Our restaurant is open to non-residents, so we do strongly recommend pre-booking.
  • There is a hand sanitising station at all entry points, and we suggest that this is made use of.
  • Increased ventilation is recommended, and we will be opening windows and doors, you might wish to bear this in mind.

The Bar:

  • We continue to offer table service so do please take a seat when there is space available. We are not yet using our bar stools or offering drinking at the bar. Our capacity will be limited by the seating available.
  • Drinks can now be ordered and paid for at the bar till point, but we ask that some care is taken to avoid crowding.
  • Please leave empty glasses at your table so we can clear, clean, and sanitise.
  • We prefer not to handle change, so cash payments are not currently being taken. Card or contactless please.

Check-out & payments:

  • Your room bill can be settled at any point during your stay or on the morning of departure.
  • Credit and debit cards will be accepted as will the contactless payment options available on smartphones.
  • Please ensure you drop off your key and parking permit into our copper dish.

Our aim is for all guests and visitors to have a relaxed, comfortable, friendly, and safe stay in our Hotel.
