Dart Valley Trail to Dittisham back via Greenway Quay to Kingswear
A real slice of England, this is a stunning, big walk to Dittisham approx 4 miles via the Dart Valley Trail, brilliant pub & caf? to focus on ? you can the catch the ferry back from Dittisham or cross the river in the small Greenway Ferry to Kingswear side and return 4 miles. (4 hours total)
From Old Mill Creek, follow Dart Valley Trail signs to Dittisham it will take you through dense pine forests and through woods and fields along by the river, a great chance to grab the binoculars for some birdlife and watch boats meander up and down river. It is signposted all the way to Dittisham approx 4 miles through the fields and eventually bringing you into the village itself where you can enjoy a well earned pint at the Ferry Boat Inn, or across at the Anchorstone Caf?, thai tuna fishcakes and a glass of rose, both are excellent for lunch and boast superb views. From here you can either take a ferry back to Dartmouth or cross the river by ringing a bell to summon the small Greenway Ferry and walk back to Kingswear.
For the Kingswear route, climb the steep hill at the back of Greenway?s car park - this is the only bad bit, but in store are gorgeous panoramic views up and down river, well worth the climb. Follow the signs through the lane and fields of Long Wood, zig zag down alongside railway track and river, wave at the steam engines and carry on through the woods to the Higher Ferry.
