Browns Hotel to Dartmouth Castle

An easy walk, there are benches along the way, great river and sea views? approx 30 minutes. Good ice creams as a reward!

Turn right out of the Hotel and walk to the inner harbour. Turn right with the inner harbour on your left and continue along the highstreet, past the Lower Ferry, through Bayards Cove and into Dartmouth Fort. This beautiful cobbled open space and 16th Century Fort was built to protect the inner harbour (sadly more prominent nowadays on TV dramas). You will walk through the fort and up the windy stairs to follow the road all the way to Warfleet Creek. Over the Creek towards the river mouth and the glorious greeny blue sea, you will stumble into Dartmouth Castle where you can also enjoy a hot chocolate home made cakes, organic ice creams and stunning sea views at the charming Tea Rooms. The Castle is English Heritage and well worth the tour ? there is more to it than you see at the entrance!

If you don?t fancy walking back, from March to September the Castle Ferry runs which are small turquoise boats (carrying 12 passengers) and you can pick this up from the pontoon in front of the Church and enjoy glorious views of Dartmouth from the water.
