The South Hams boasts some of the most stunning walking in the South West. The coastal paths are hilly, dramatic and full of beautiful small coves cut into the cliffs. There is also the Dart Valley Trail running along both sides of the River Dart, which gives you a whole variety of river views, sometimes from gaps in the clearings of woodlands or from lower down, right alongside the water.
In all cases you will need decent walking shoes (apart from the walk to Dartmouth Castle) and lots of water. Many of the walks have good refreshment places, pubs or cafes, but for others you may need to take some food with you. On the following pages, we have chosen some of our favourite walks from the easier, close to home to the more challenging, further a field. You will need a map with you and the Tourist Information Centre is the best place to pick these up.
